Sudan 249 Kandaka Queen T-Shirt featuring an embroidered design of Sudan's "249" calling code beside the crowned profile of a Kandaka, an ancient Nubian warrior queen. The code also appears in Arabic-Indic numerals, ٢٤٩.

Kandaka — written "Candace" by the Greeks and Romans — was the title carried by the queens who ruled the Kingdom of Kush from Meroë. They were not consorts but sovereigns: women who governed, built temples, and led armies, like the one-eyed Queen Amanirenas, who fought the Roman Empire to a standstill and forced it to terms. Their legacy made "kandaka" a word for power in a woman's hands — a word Sudanese protesters revived in 2019 for the women who stood at the front of their revolution.

249 is the international calling code for Sudan: the three digits that connect every Sudanese back home, wherever in the world they are. Rendered in the red, black, green, and white of the Sudanese flag — colors it shares with the flag of the Arab Revolt — and crowned in gold, it carries the strength and pride of Sudan's women across generations.
