From the harbors of Tyre, Sidon, and Byblos on the Lebanese coast, the Phoenicians ruled the Mediterranean for a thousand years before Christ — master shipbuilders and traders who founded Carthage and carried their goods to the edges of the known world. Their greatest export was neither cedar nor purple dye but the alphabet: the writing system they spread by sea became the ancestor of Greek, Latin, and nearly every script in use today. The ship in this design is the vessel that carried letters to the world.
961 is the international calling code for Lebanon: the three digits that connect every Lebanese back home, wherever in the world they are. Rendered in the red and white of the Lebanese flag and accented with the green of its cedar, it carries the seafaring spirit and pride of Lebanon across generations.
