The evil eye, or al-'ayn العين‎, is a common belief that individuals have the power to look at people, animals, or objects and cause them harm. A Nazar or ‏نَظَر‎ is an eye shaped amulet or bead used to protest against the evil eye. This illustration incorporates the evil eye into a simple, feminine line drawing.

The nominal use of evil eye beads is a common theme across Mediterranean cultures, including North Africa, Egypt, the Levant, Turkey, Italy, and Greece. It's also popular in Latin America, Pakistan, and parts of sub-Saharan Africa. They're believed to have been around since 1,500BC and popular with the Phoenicians, Persians, Greeks, Romans and Ottomans.
