Few people know that Sudan is home to more pyramids than Egypt - over 200 of them, raised by the kings and Kandaka queens of the Kingdom of Kush at Meroë. Steeper and narrower than their northern neighbours, these royal tombs are the monuments of a Nubian civilization that ruled the Nile for centuries, including the "Black Pharaohs" who once sat on Egypt's throne. The ankh, the ancient symbol of eternal life, ties the design back to that deep Kushite past.

249 is the international calling code for Sudan: the three digits that connect every Sudanese back home, wherever in the world they are.
